Covid Vaccine Report: there are still 7.3 million Italians who are not vaccinated

While the “fourth wave” alert of Covid-19 is triggered throughout Europe , on 5 November in Italy there were 7.3 million  unvaccinated people .

The percentage of unvaccinated people in Italy

According to what emerges from the weekly report of the commissioner’s structure for the Covid emergency, published on November 5 , there are exactly 7,318,750 Italians who have not yet received the first dose of the vaccine.

According to the data, the majority are in the age group between 12 and 19 years . However, a no less relevant part is made up of the age group between 30 and 49 years , in which the percentage of unvaccinated people is currently stable at 17% .

This is a worrying figure , compared to the plan put in place by the government a year ago to deal with the pandemic emergency. On the eve of the third dose , such a large slice of the population without the first vaccine administration appears far from the perspective hoped for by the government plans for the country’s health security.

Report Covid: the analysis by age groups

In the last week, according to the estimates reported in the report released by the Government , over 140,000 Italians have decided to get vaccinated. But this unexpected acceleration is not enough to appease the state of emergency.

To date, there are still 215,356 over 80s who are not vaccinated; the lowest rate of vaccinations is recorded in Calabria. But the other age groups considered to be at risk are no less: 454,048 unvaccinated between 70 and 79 years old and 763,873 between 60 and 69 years old .

As for the other age groups, here is what the report of the commissioner structure for the Covid emergency reports in detail: the unvaccinated are 1,260,752 between 50 and 59 , 1,487,727 between 40 and 49 , 1,147,039 between 30 and 39 years old, 716,544 between 20 and 29 , 1,273,411 between 12 and 19 . The highest number of unvaccinated people is, as mentioned above, in the younger stratum of the population.

The vaccinated divided by region

Among the Italian regions, the one in the lead for the highest number of vaccinated people is Lombardy , while Sicily is last . The highest figure of vaccinated between 12 and 19 years is in Sardinia : 79.65%, while the lowest rate was recorded in Bolzano with 57.41%.

Covid emergency: the urgency of the third dose

Meanwhile the government accelerates on the third dose of the anti-Covid vaccine . The government committee set up to deal with the emergency intends to prevent a worsening of the pandemic situation in view of the holidays.

The goal is a safe Christmas. Faced with the rise of the Rt index , on 1.15 since last October 13, Palazzo Chigi prepares its action plan: “Accelerate on third doses” .

The Minister of Health Roberto Speranza in a recent press release declared:

“We think this is the first terrain on which to focus all our energies in the coming weeks. We still have to recover with the first doses and accelerate on recalls ”.

The peak of the Covid emergency is expected in December and February.

With the current organization and strategic reserve supply, the Government should be able to guarantee the complete vaccination cycle to all citizens, including the third dose. So assures General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, extraordinary commissioner deputy to the Covid-19 emergency.

The third dose of the anti-Covid vaccine is currently strongly recommended for the over 60s. The administration of the third dose will lead to a 12-month extension of the Green Pass and, according to government statements, it is the only useful tool to avoid the fourth pandemic wave.

The trend of Covid vaccinations in Europe

According to what is reported by the database of the European Center of Disease Prevention and Control , 69.3% of European citizens have completed the vaccination process . While the first dose of the vaccine would have been administered to 76.9% of the European population .

At the moment our country is in third place in terms of full-cycle vaccination, behind Portugal and Spain. On October 13, the number of vaccinated people in Italy was 72% , against 86% in Portugal. France and the United Kingdom followed, at 67% and 66% respectively.

From 31 May 2021 to today, the European citizens who have completed the vaccination cycle have grown to 169 million . Italy must now proceed with renewed commitment in the anti Covid-19 vaccination campaign in order not to fall behind the European average.
