Liver Purification Diet: Tips to Detoxify from Accumulated Toxins

You have certainly heard of the purifying diet several times: the liver and body in general sometimes need to be purified with a detox diet. Although it is still advisable to try to maintain a healthy lifestyle so as not to overload this very important organ, it is inevitable that they will accumulate even if you follow a healthy and balanced diet.

In this article we will address together the characteristics of a purifying diet and foods suitable for detoxifying the liver , in order to help our body feel better.

What is the Depurative Diet?
The diet, erroneously, is often associated with a low- calorie regimen aimed at weight loss. In reality, whatever type of diet one follows is a diet, but one can also speak of an “unregulated diet”, i.e. a type of casual, inattentive and harmful diet for our health: it is precisely this case that causes the liver and the other excretory organs to become overloaded.

What to do when we find ourselves feeling sick due to an enlarged liver ? All we have to do is put in the effort and recover healthy habits. Obviously, in case of acute liver pain and worrying symptoms, it is good to promptly seek medical attention without waiting too long.

Blood tests , then, can help us evaluate our state of health. If we are in a situation of tolerable heaviness and fatigue of the body (and therefore the intervention of specialists is not required) then we can switch to following a purifying and detoxifying diet for the liver .

Read on for some tips you can follow to get your health back on track by eliminating toxins and resetting your metabolism.

What are the foods that strain the liver?

First of all, fatty foods cause heaviness in this gland: lipids, especially if hydrogenated and saturated, overload the hepatobiliary system. Therefore, we must not exceed with fatty foods, prefer healthy ones (even oil can be harmful if used for frying!) and keep the intake of calories and sugars under control (which turn into fat if eaten in excess of the actual needs of our body).

The alcohol and the alkaloids that we find in tea, coffee and chocolate are other substances that tire our purification system, while for the proteins we can take them (without exaggerating, but without fearing them as enemies, on the contrary) preferring those of vegetable origin, i.e. by eating legumes.

They are rich in vegetable fiber, so green light to beans, chickpeas and peas as substitutes and frequent alternative to meat, eggs and cheeses, which should instead be consumed in more moderation.

Consider that the liver that has to manage an excess of these substances reaches a saturation: this means that it is unable to synthesize and dispose of all the toxins, which remain in circulation.

Practicing physical activity and taking saunas can help promote the expulsion of toxins from the circulation through sweating.

The allies of liver detoxification

Now that we know our enemies, let’s see who our allies are. Friendly substances are found in fruits and vegetables and unrefined whole foods.

However, legumes, eggs and fish should also be consumed in moderation (especially eggs) but regularly: proteins, as we have already seen, are enemies of our balance only if we really abuse them. Eliminating them from the diet could be just as harmful, unless there is a precise prescription from a doctor (in this case you need to refer to him to understand how to feel good).

Then there are some foods of vegetable origin that carry out a real activity of protection and purification of the liver .

These are artichokes, cardo santo and boldo, a medicinal herb. They promote bile secretion, resulting in liver and pancreas disposal work and improved intestinal health.

So here is the description of some remedies to get your body back to health, detoxifying it.

Dandelion and milk thistle

Dandelion belongs to the bitter and wild herbs useful for the functioning of the liver: it is used to prepare detoxifying infusions and decoctions.

The herbalist will be able to advise you on the doses to take. Even the milk thistle performs the same function: in this case you could buy a solution prepared starting from the parts of this plant.

Also, adding the leaves and stems of these two foods to your diet will support you in achieving health.

Water and lemon

Another remedy is to drink a glass of warm water and lemon as soon as you wake up.

It is a simple and healthy drink to prepare both for the liver and for stimulating intestinal regularity and the consequent expulsion of toxins through the faeces.

Be careful not to overdo it because you could damage your tooth enamel, so don’t follow (or follow for a short time) the “diet” that recommends drinking the juice of many lemons in one day!

Burdock decoction

An ideal purifying herb for decoctions that you can always ask your trusted herbalist about is burdock, which has a purifying and hypoglycemic action. It is its roots in particular that help us keep cholesterol levels under control.

Artichoke extract

In herbal medicine you can also find artichoke extract, which, as we have seen, is one of the allies of liver health.

It helps to overcome digestive difficulties, hypercholesterolemia and, of course, fatty liver.

This remedy is very effective and is used by those who need a very effective product that allows them to achieve well-being quickly, in the event of acute ailments.

Birch sap

Birch sap is a seasonal remedy which until a few decades ago was used to combat winter ailments, joint pain, asthenia and weakness after convalescence.

It is an all-natural product not to be confused with birch tincture or syrup: by taking up to two tablespoons a day in spring you can purify your body and provide it with many nutrients and vitamins important for your health.

Aloe Vera juice

Aloe vera has made a comeback in recent years for its infinite properties: drinking this juice helps detoxify and promote intestinal transit, however it is good not to confuse a healthy and natural product with juices rich in added sugars that we often find at the supermarket.

Those are mostly drinks comparable to any fruit juice rich in preservatives and added sugars, absolutely enemies of the liver!

Conclusions

The liver is a very important gland for our health: it plays the role of purifier of the blood, together with the kidneys, as it helps us to eliminate the toxic substances circulating in our body.

After a period of celebration (such as the long Christmas holidays) or holidays, in which we may have exaggerated with alcohol and fatty foods, after a period in which we have not paid attention to our diet and have eaten too many sweets and/ or exaggerated with coffee, after following drug treatment, the liver may be enlarged due to work overload.

This results in fatigue of the intestines, kidneys and the whole body.

Precisely for this reason it is good to follow a purifying diet to facilitate the elimination of toxins, for example by stimulating diuresis and promoting intestinal transit: fiber and water are essential to achieve our goal of well-being.

Everything must be seasoned with physical activity to expel toxins through sweating, also favored by the sauna and Turkish baths.

Green light to vegetables and fruit, herbal teas and extracts of natural remedies available in herbal medicine. Yes to saunas and sports, plenty of water and no fried foods, alcohol, sweets and medicines, if possible.

Obviously the doctor carries out a fundamental action in the purification of the organism: if one is undergoing any treatment or if the malaise is serious, it is a must to consult a professional.

Be careful not to exceed with “health”, eliminating prescribed foods and remedies and neglecting the indications that a good doctor can give you to make you feel better!
