Polaramin® Cream, Syrup and Tablets: Indications, Dosage and Price

Polaramin® is an antihistamine-based drug that is used in the symptomatic treatment of allergies caused by various factors. It exists on the market in three different types: cream , syrup and tablets .

Polaramin®  cream is a product indicated for the treatment of itchy dermatitis, insect bites and sunburn. It owes its mechanism of action to desclopheniramine maleate which possesses antihistamine properties.

Polaramin® cream inhibits histamine activity, controls vasodilation, pain, inflammation and edema. It also limits the absorption of the active ingredient on a systemic level and is a very safe product because the active ingredient does not reach the bloodstream.

Polaramin Syrup®  helps fight allergy symptoms by blocking the effects of histamine. It allows you to counteract the symptoms of seasonal allergies such as stuffy or runny or itchy nose, rhinitis, urticaria, conjunctivitis, itching. Even the tablets perform the same function and are to be preferred for a more convenient administration compared to the syrup.

What does it contain?

The  Polaramin® cream  product contains:  desclopheniramine maleate which is the active ingredient and the following excipients: allantoin, sorbitol, glyceryl monostearate, glycerin, spermaceti, cetyl alcohol, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, lavender essence, purified water, ethoxylated esters of lanolin and liquid paraffin.

The Polaramin® syrup  product contains the same active ingredient as the cream and the following excipients: sodium chloride, sorbitol, sodium citrate dihydrate, sucrose, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, apricot flavour, ethyl alcohol, sodium hydroxide, citric acid, orange flavour, menthol, water purified.

When is it recommended to use the product?

Polaramin® cream  is useful in the treatment of itchy dermatitis, insect bites and sunburn. It works effectively thanks to desclopheniramine which has the function of blocking the release of histamine.

Polaramin Syrup®  allows you to fight the symptoms related to seasonal allergies by blocking the harmful effects of histamine. The product allows you to combat the typical symptoms of allergies such as stuffy, runny or itchy nose, rhinitis, urticaria, conjunctivitis and itching.

Dosage: how to take the product?

Polaramin® in 1% dermatological cream must be applied in sufficient quantity directly to the skin area affected by the pathological process. The cream should be spread 2 to 3 times a day. It is recommended to massage the area until completely absorbed.

Do not increase the doses, unless otherwise advised by the doctor. For any doubts about the dosage, timing and methods of use of the product, it is advisable to consult your doctor or pharmacist.

For the syrup  , the recommended dose in adults and children over 12 years of age is 1 teaspoon, about 5 mL, 3 or 4 times a day unless otherwise advised by the doctor. The product should only be taken for short periods of treatment.

Warnings and contraindications

The use of Polaramin® cream  is generally well tolerated, but side effects may still occur. To fully benefit from the therapeutic efficacy of the drug and for the correct use of the product, wash your hands thoroughly after applying the cream and avoid contact of the mucous membranes with the product.

In case of contact, especially with the eyes, rinse thoroughly. Another important warning concerns the application of the product on areas affected by skin that is not perfectly intact.

It is advisable to avoid direct exposure to sunlight when applying the cream. Keep the drug out of the reach of children. During pregnancy and while breastfeeding, the product can only be used under the supervision of your doctor and only in case of real need.

Even products without a medical prescription could be harmful to the fetus or infant, for this reason you should not take drugs, use specific creams or take supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding without seeking medical advice.

For any doubts about the effects and uses of  Polaramin® during pregnancy and during the breastfeeding period, it is advisable to seek the advice of your doctor or pharmacist.

There are currently no known interactions to report related to the use of the product. The Polaramin® product is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the active substance or one of its components.

Prolonged use of Polaramin® can cause the appearance of local and transient reactions such as burning, dry skin, skin rashes and photosensitivity.

Polaramin syrup®  can cause nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite. Careful use and in compliance with the dosages indicated on the package leaflet or recommended by the doctor, reduces the risk of undesirable effects and overdose.

The product should not be used during pregnancy or lactation, unless otherwise advised by the doctor. The product causes drowsiness and it can be dangerous to drive or operate machinery.
