Pumice stone: where to buy?

Especially in the summer (but not only) the beauty of the feet is placed at the center of attention, as sandals and days at the beach force us to put them on display. However, they can be a source of embarrassment, which is why various types of remedies are used, first of all the pumice stone. Where to buy ? How to use it? Works?

In this article we focus on this topic and on this product in particular, but I will also give you other tips to prevent calluses from forming.

Pumice stone: where to buy?

It is easy to find it both individually and in more or less elaborate pedicure kits, together with files, scissors and ointments. It can be found in all pharmacies but also well-stocked perfumeries and household items with a corner dedicated to body care.

I recommend not using sharp tools or tools that can cause wounds (for example by removing cuticles) which are often sold in association with pumice stone, because infections are difficult to cure and there is also the risk of being prey to fungi, which are really difficult to eliminate.

Even the pumice stone can hurt you if you rub it on the delicate skin of your fingers in a distraction. Always follow the advice of your pharmacist or podiatrist to best use this tool to prevent corns and calluses.

Pumice stone: use and composition

In this case, you just have to switch to more invasive methods. I would advise against buying those blades that vaguely resemble a potato peeler, because they can be very dangerous! In fact, it would be necessary to “peel” the calluses, but there are two risks:

  • cutting too hard and too deeply, even cutting severely;
  • cause infections and mycoses. These tools must be sterilized with procedures that not everyone knows how to perform, so it’s better to leave these tools in the hands of professionals!

Alternatively you can use the pumice stone, which plays an important role in making your feet more aesthetically beautiful (and not only that: you can also use it very gently to counteract ingrown hairs, but it is better to prefer a good scrub to avoid scratching your legs) .

This stone performs an exfoliating and abrasive action that causes the dry skin of calluses to fall off, removing dead skin cells and smoothing the heels and big toes, as well as the ball of the foot.

A session with a podiatrist could help you to improve the aesthetics of your feet in a correct way, but you will have to, as already mentioned, be constant with the use of creams and masks, pumice stone and also with warm footbaths and emollients with essential oils , perhaps watching TV in the evening or reading a good book: thus combining business with pleasure.

Pumice stone: how much does it cost?

Is the cost of a pumice stone high? Absolutely no. It is a very low price and practically within everyone’s reach, especially if bought individually and not together with beauty bags, which certainly could have a less accessible price.

The price is around 5 euros, a very modest figure for a product that lasts over time.

Conclusions

Foot care is now as important as that of the face: they too can be a habit to wear jeweled shoes or simply a part of us to show off in the pool or at the sea.

However, it is good not to resort to tools that require skill and dexterity, tools that should only be used by true professionals who know how to handle them safely and sterilize them properly.

I also advise against turning to false professionals who, at modest prices, know how to ruin the health of the feet, instead of helping us! A podiatrist will be able to help us in the treatment of painful and annoying calluses (such as “bird’s eye” ones), which are deep, difficult to remove and which must be treated by trained personnel and in full compliance with hygiene standards and our health.
