  • acute catarrhal rhinitis;
  • allergic rhinitis;

The pharmaceutical forms of Rinazina® currently authorized in Italy are as follows:

  • Rinazina® 0.1%, nasal spray, 15 mL bottle at the price of 9.10 euros;
  • Rinazina® 0.1% nasal drops, 10 mL bottle at the price of 9.20 euros.

How does it work?

Rinazina® is a medicine that belongs to the category of sympathomimetics with a high vasoconstrictive action. The drug applied topically acts as a decongestant of the nasopharyngeal mucous membranes, it generally acts within a few minutes and its action lasts about 4-6 hours.

Posology and Method of Use

For treatment with Rinazina® nasal spray, the following dosage must be followed. 1 or 2 sprays in each nostril 2 or 3 times a day. The drug is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age.

For the first application, press the dispenser two or three times to activate the pump. The bottle should be kept upright. Do not follow the treatment for more than a week.

For the treatment with Rinazina® nasal drops the drug should be used as follows. In adults: 2 or 3 drops in each nostril 2 or 3 times a day.

Patients suffering from renal insufficiency and in the case of the presence of hepatic insufficiency there are no specific instructions. However, it is advisable to consult your doctor before taking the drug.

Overdose

Like other medicines, Rinazina® can also cause symptoms of an overdose . In case of an overdose, symptoms such as:

  • hypertension;
  • tachycardia;
  • headache;
  • photophobia;
  • sense of heaviness in the chest.

In children, the symptoms of an overdose are:

  • hypothermia;
  • severe central nervous system depression;
  • sedation;

Paying attention to the recommended doses reduces the risk of overdose. An overdose of the drug, even if it is a product administered topically and for periods of time, can give rise to serious systemic effects. In case of accidental ingestion of the drug, consult your doctor or go to the nearest hospital.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Concerning the use of the product during pregnancy and breastfeeding , seek medical advice. The drugs, during pregnancy and lactation, must be taken only with the consent of the doctor.

If you suspect you are pregnant or are trying to become pregnant, you must inform your doctor before taking this medicine. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, even common over-the-counter medicines can cause harm to the fetus or infant and should only be taken following a request for medical advice.

Contraindications

The use of the drug is not recommended in all cases of hypersensitivity to the active principle or to the excipients contained in the formulation.

The excipients contained in the drug are:

  • For nose drops : sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, benzalkonium chloride, disodium edetate, concentrated phosphoric acid, purified water;
  • For the nasal spray : sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium edetate, concentrated phosphoric acid, balsamic aroma, benzalkonium chloride, purified water.

The drug is contraindicated in cases of severe heart disease and severe arterial hypertension, glaucoma and hyperthyroidism. Not to be used in children under 12 years of age.

It must not be taken during and/or in the two weeks following a therapy based on antidepressant drugs. If you have any doubts about the contraindications of the Rinazine® drug, you should consult your doctor.

Prolonged use of vasoconstrictor drugs could alter the normal functionality of the mucous membranes of the nose and/or paranasal sinuses. Prolonged use could also cause addiction to the drug.

Benzalkonium chloride, the preservative contained in the medicine, can cause swelling of the nasal mucosa, especially if it is used for long periods.

The use of topical products can give rise to sensitization phenomena especially after prolonged use. In these cases it is necessary to interrupt the treatment and consult the doctor to choose a suitable therapy.

Interaction with other drugs

If the patient has taken, will be taking or is taking any other medication, he should consult his doctor. The drug Rinazina® interacts with antidepressant drugs.

Side effects

As with all medicines, Rinazina® can also give rise to undesirable effects even if not all patients show them. The drug could cause local rebound phenomena with congestion and/or sensitization of the mucous membranes.

Systemic effects such as reflex bradycardia, headache, arterial hypertension and micturition disorders may occur. The side effects are transient, but if they occur it is advisable to consult your doctor. The medicine can cause bronchospasm. In the event that a severe headache occurs, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor.

There are no known effects on the ability to drive or the ability to use machines. The use of the drug constitutes doping and can give rise to positive anti-doping tests in athletes.
