Tachipirina Neonati® Drops and Suppositories: How to administer the drug?
There are two Tachipirina® suitable for newborns : Tachipirina® Drops and 62.5 mg suppositories .
Its function of lowering fever is performed by paracetamol , an active ingredient which has a specific action on the central nervous system to lower body temperature. We are talking about one of the most used drugs in children and infants but there are often many doubts about the dosage and safety of the medicine.
How does it work?
Tachipirina® for newborns belongs to the family of analgesic and antipyretic drugs. Its analgesic effect occurs thanks to paracetamol which also has an antipyretic activity which serves to lower fever.
Paracetamol is absorbed quickly and is metabolized in the liver and eliminated in the urine for 90% in about 24 hours. The elimination half-life is 2 hours. This time lengthens considerably in case of renal insufficiency therefore if your child suffers from this disorder the dosage will need to be modified.
Dosage and method of use
For children it is necessary to pay attention to the dosage indicated in relation to the weight. Ages depend on weight and are indicative. We report them for information and therefore they may vary. In general, the dosage schedule of the drug Tachipirina® newborns is shown below.
For the suppositories Neonates of 62.5 mg. In children weighing between 3.2 and 5 kg, therefore from birth up to a maximum of 3 months, 1 suppository a day is recommended to be repeated if necessary after about 6 hours, without ever exceeding 4 doses of medicine per day.
For the drops , the following dosage scheme must be respected: for infants weighing from 3.2 kg and aged from birth to 30 days, it is recommended to take 8 drops up to 4 times a day at 6-hour intervals.
If the child suffers from jaundice and is less than 3 months of age, it is necessary to reduce the single dose and stick to that prescribed by the pediatrician.
For any doubts on the use of the drug Tachipirina® newborns and on its correct dosage, it is advisable to seek the opinion of the doctor or consult the package leaflet.
Overdose
Symptoms of acetaminophen poisoning can cause nausea and vomiting and are commonly followed by a gradual worsening of general health conditions.
Paracetamol, in the event of an accidental overdose , can also cause hepatic cytolysis which can lead to irreversible massive necrosis, with acidosis and increased levels of hepatic transaminases , lactate dehydrogenase, hepatocellular insufficiency and bilirubinemia with a consequent reduction in prothrombin levels .
You should immediately contact your doctor or the nearest hospital and treat the intoxication with gastric emptying and hospitalization.
