Trofodermin® Cream and Spray: Price, Use and Indications

Trofodermin® is a medicine that acts thanks to two active ingredients: clostebol acetate and neomycin sulphate, which are typically used in the treatment of skin infections and fissures.

Thanks to its specific action, Trofodermin® is used for the treatment of skin infections and fissures. The drug helps treat skin lesions caused by bacteria.

The therapeutic indications are used to allow healing of skin wounds such as: skin erosions, abrasions, wounds, varicose ulcers, lesions, skin damage caused by poor blood circulation, ulcers caused by trauma, bedsores , nipple fissures, anal fissures, minor burns, infected wounds and/or wounds with slow healing, skin irritation and redness, sensitization, cracks with skin ulcers, dry skin and flaking.

The pharmaceutical forms of Trofodermin® currently authorized in Italy are as follows:

  • Trofodermin® spray ;
  • Trofodermin® cream .

The price of Trofodermin® is 10.90 euros for both the cream and the spray. It is a medicine that can be purchased without the need for a prescription.

Mechanism of action

Trofodermin® is a drug classified among androgens for topical use. Its active ingredients have a trophic and healing effect that allow skin and skin-mucous lesions to be repaired in a short time. Eliminates local infection, has poor systemic absorption.

Clostebol acetate and neomycin sulphate are the active ingredients  of Trofodermin® and it is used for the treatment of skin infections and fissures. For any doubts about the drug and its pharmacodynamics, it is advisable to consult your doctor.

Posology and Method of Use

The medicinal product must always be used carefully following the instructions given in the package leaflet by the pharmacist or your doctor.

The recommended dose of  Trofodermin® drug  is 1-2 applications per day. The cutaneous suspension should be sprayed on the wound and if necessary covered with a sterile gauze.

The cream should be used locally on the skin to be treated. If you have any doubts about the dosage of the drug, you are advised to consult your doctor. For patients suffering from renal insufficiency and in case the patient suffers from hepatic insufficiency, the doctor should be notified.

There are no particular precautions to be taken, but it is still advisable to consult your doctor before taking any drug in these cases.

Overdose

In case of an application for long periods of treatment or on large areas of injured skin, side effects could appear due to overdose and the passage of the drug into the bloodstream.

Symptoms of an overdose can be an increase in hair on the skin. The treatment should be stopped in this case and the patient should contact the doctor or pharmacist. In the event of an overdose, the patient should seek medical attention.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

For the use of  Trofodermin® during pregnancy and lactation, refer to the following. There are no known particular precautions to be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but it is still advisable to consult your doctor before taking any drug, even over-the-counter ones, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the drugs should only be used in cases of extreme necessity and only under strict medical supervision. For any doubts about the use of the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding, ask your doctor first

Contraindications

The use of  Trofodermin® is contraindicated in the case of overt hypersensitivity to clostebol acetate and neomycin sulphate or to any of the excipients present in the drug.

The excipients contained in the cream drug are as follows: polyethylene glycol stearate, liquid paraffin, stearic acid, dimethicone, lanolin, nipasept, floranol and purified water.

In the cutaneous spray the excipients are: magnesium stearate, isobutane at 3.2 bar, liquid paraffin. For any doubts about the drug and any contraindications, it is advisable to consult your doctor.

Interactions with other drugs

Using this medicine together with other medicines containing antibiotics may increase the risk of developing an allergy or may also aggravate side effects.

There are currently no known other drug interactions, but it is still advisable to consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have taken any other medicines.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can also give rise to serious side effects, even though not all people experience them. The use, especially if prolonged, of drugs for cutaneous use can cause sensitization phenomena.

Long periods of application to large areas of injured skin may result in increased hair growth on the skin resulting from the absorption of high doses of clostebol acetate.

Carefully following the instructions contained in the leaflet minimizes the risk of side effects. Do not use the drug after the expiry date stated on the package. The expiry date refers to a drug stored carefully and in the original package.

Finally, it is advisable not to store the drug above 30°C. The drug must be stored in a dry place away from humidity. For any doubts about the use of the drug, it is advisable to seek the advice of your doctor or trusted pharmacist.
